I slept in a very nice bed this night, far better that in the hostel. About 09:30 I get up and have a short breakfast. A guy with a tractor is collecting the stuff from the cows (I have to ask Michael for the right word) and spread it around in the landscape. That was a really heavy smell in the nose. I guess it needs just a bit more to taste it…
Cleaning and feeding the cows and sheep now. There is a very old feller helping with the cleaning. He seems to be a bit deaf and so seem I. I do not understand a word he was talking. Strange accent.
After feeding the sheep on the farm we drive with the car to other sheep. Now it is time for a little rest. We eat some soup with bread and Tea Fingers with the tea. I have to confess, that I am now really addicted to tea 🙂
Maybe a few words more about the farm and the surrounding: about 10 miles away from Ballymena, there is a little village called Newtown-Crommelin. Right below that village is Michaels farm. The surrounding is very nice with smooth hills and little streets.
I thought I could write a lot for this day, but we really didn’t work much, then waiting and working a bit more.
In the evening we fed the cows again and then ourselves. Potatoes with Beans and Meatballs *mjam*
Ich habe diese Nacht wirklich sehr gut geschlafen, so ein breites Bett hatte ich schon lange nicht mehr. Etwa halb 10 stehe ich auf und nehme ein kleines Frühstück zu mir. Ein Typ mit Güllewagen steht vor den Ställen und pumpt die Gülle ab, die wird dann auch gleich rundums Grundstück verteilt. Man kann sich vorstellen, dass nur eine Prise mehr notwendig ist, um den Geruch zu schmecken.
Ausmisten und Füttern der Kühe und Schafe. Ein sehr alter Farmer hilft dabei. Er scheint etwas taub zu sein und denkt bestimmt das gleiche von mir. Ich habe kein Wort verstanden. Schwerer Akzent.
Jetzt fahren wir noch durch die Umgebung um die anderen Schafe zu füttern. Dann ist es aber zeit für eine kleine Mahlzeit und Tee. Ich muss zugeben, ich bin süchtig nach Tee 🙂
Vielleicht noch etwas zur Farm und der Umgebung: etwa 10 Meilen von Bellamena entfernt ist ein kleines Dorf namens Newtown-Crommelin. Direkt daneben befindet sich Michaels Farm. Die Landschaft ist sehr schön, grün, leichte Hügel und kleine Straßen.
Mehr gibt’s für heute eigentlich nicht zu berichten, ein wenig Arbeit und immer warten zwischendurch.
Am Abend gibt’s wieder Futter für die Viecher und dann für uns. Kartoffeln mit Bohnen und Mettbällchen. *mjam*
